We invite you to take part in our online survey. We want to better understand your views on light and noise pollution.
Why are we doing this survey?
The societal context of noise and light pollution is an important part of PLAN-B.
Given that human activities cause this pollution, we want to understand what drives them. We want to know what policies and measures could reduce pollution and lessen the impact on plants and animals.
Noise and light pollution come from many human activities. These include road transportation, aviation, industry, culture, the night-time economy, agriculture, home life, advertising.
While noise and light can affect human health and wellbeing, they often also have positive associations, such as enjoyment, travel, and a thriving economy. Populations and social groups differ in their attitudes and perceptions of this pollution. Some interventions may require changes in behaviour, place restrictions on what people can do, introduce penalties for polluting activities, and impact some groups more than others.
A good understanding of views on light and noise can therefore help policymakers create policies that are effective, equitable and widely acceptable.
