The aim was clear: to highlight the urgent need to address light pollution and protect the night. This workshop also directly supports our work ahead of CMS COP15 in Campo Grande, where we will host the side event “Restoring the Night.”

Rather than taking a lecture-based approach, we prioritised dialogue. The session focused on introducing the issue of light pollution and, more importantly, engaging in meaningful discussions with stakeholders. Understanding their perspectives and challenges is essential to building stronger collaboration and identifying how mitigation solutions can be effectively implemented in practice.

A key component of the workshop was presenting our Light Pollution Policy Brief (https://lnkd.in/eKzZGdXA) – now available in multiple languages, including Portuguese, Spanish, Polish, and Swedish. It outlines 10 clear, actionable messages designed to be easily understood and translated into policy.

We also explored the impacts of light pollution and discussed practical pathways for mitigation.

Encouragingly, the level of engagement and interest demonstrated that momentum is building, and that protecting the night is increasingly recognised as a shared responsibility.

The workshop ended up building strong stakeholder collaborations, and plans for future awareness raising events, research and policy action in Brazil.

Thank you to all the participants. Special thanks to all organisers – you did a great job in organising such an insightful event within a very short time (Camila Teixeira, Janaina Aguiar, Vinicius Donisete Lima Rodrigues Goulart, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), and others).
